About the Parish
Information about the Parish Council
Parish Councils are local elected organisations, responsible for civil parishes serving around 16 million people in the UK. They are funded by levying a ‘precept’ collected with the council tax paid by parish residents.
The Chew Stoke PC is responsible for governance on behalf of Chew Stoke village and Bath & NE Somerset Council. It evaluates planning issues, works with local police and district council officers. Deals with conservation matters and environmental issues. Consults with the local authority on highway issues, drainage, footpaths and public transport.
If you have any questions about whether B&NES or the Parish Council are responsible for getting things done in the parish, please refer to this Parish Information Pack it holds lots of really helpful information.
The parish is allowed 9 Parish Councillors. They are unpaid and elected to serve for 4 years, unless a vacancy arises between elections – which may be filled by an interim election or by co-option.
Council Meetings
The PC meets on the first Thursday of each month except August when there is no meeting because of the holiday season. Meetings take place in The Village Hall at 7.30pm.
